At the start of 2011, a full year ahead of its February 2012 worldwide launch, we began to develop a trip planning application to support the all-new navi system on the completley revamped GoldWing, Honda's flagship motorcycle.
A rider could record their ride via the onboard navi system using GPS and later import it into the TripPlanner application to share with the community.
A rider could also preplan an entire trip, including POI stops with CityGrid integration, and then upload everything to their bike's navi system via SD card.
The application was built on top of the Google Maps API with calls to CityGrid for POI data. The TripPlanner application, while marketed to GoldWing enthusasts, could be used by any motorcyclists using GPS, broadening the community aspect.
